I have always had an interest in art. For quite a number of years I experimented in different mediums but never settled in any, that is, until I tried my hand at mosaic.
I soon started exploring the use of various media as tesserae. Together with the use of different techniques, I have always tried to bring out my subject in a unique manner. A good example is ‘Klimt’s Kiss’ where I focused on a particular area of Klimt’s famous painting The Kiss. I used both the direct and indirect method of mosaic making in order to create interest in the resulting picture. I engraved some of the tesserae with swirly patterns while some others were painted from the underside in order to bring out the details of the hands and face. This came about through the study of the subject and the careful choice of material and method.
By using this approach, I have found a way of representing waves, by breaking glass bottles and using the raw edge of cut glass to maximize on its reflectivity and transparency. Waves fascinate me. And so do the forces at play – current, gravity and wind. No wave is like another, but at the same time there is so much similarity!
In the past few years I have learned to master this art and express myself in a straightforward yet distinctive manner.
